Gauge Theory in Two Dimensions: Topological, Geometric and Probabilistic Aspects
نویسنده
چکیده
Two dimensional Yang-Mills theory has proved to be a surprisingly rich model, despite, or possibly because of, its simplicity and tractability both in classical and quantum forms. The purpose of this article is to give a largely self-contained introduction to classical and quantum Yang-Mills theory on the plane and on compact surfaces, along with its relationship to ChernSimons theory, illustrating some of the directions of current and recent research activity.

Supersymmetric quiver gauge theories on the lattice
In this paper we detail the lattice constructions of several classes of supersymmetric quiver gauge theories in two and three Euclidean spacetime dimensions possessing exact supersymmetry at finite lattice spacing. Such constructions are obtained through the methods of topological twisting and geometric discretization of Euclidean Yang-Mills theories with eight and sixteen supercharges in two a...
متن کاملMathai-quillen Formulation of Twisted N = 4 Supersymmetric Gauge Theories in Four Dimensions
We present a detailed description of the three inequivalent twists of N = 4 supersymmetric gauge theories. The resulting topological quantum field theories are reobtained in the framework of the Mathai-Quillen formalism and the corresponding moduli spaces are analyzed. We study their geometric features in each case. In one of the twists we make contact with the theory of non-abelian monopoles i...
متن کاملTopological Invariants And A Gauge Theory Of The Super-Poincarb Algebra In Three Dimensions t
Various aspects of super-space topology and N=l supersymmetry in 2+1 dimensions are explored. Non-Minimal super Yang-Mills theory is used to construct a gauge theory of the N=l super-Poincare’ algebra. A topological super Yang-Mills theory is given and used to compute elements of the cohomology classes of super-monopole moduli space. Submitted to Nuclear Physics B t This work is supported by th...
متن کاملTesting Dijkgraaf-Vafa conjecture at higher genus
Topological strings have been a source of insights and a powerful tool to study many areas of mathematics and physics. One such example is their physical applications to supersymmetric gauge theories in four dimensions. Through the technique of geometric engineering [1], a large class of N = 1 and N = 2 supersymmetric gauge theory can be embedded in local Calabi-Yau compactifications of type II...
متن کاملElectric-Magnetic Duality And The Geometric Langlands Program
The geometric Langlands program can be described in a natural way by compactifying on a Riemann surface C a twisted version of N = 4 super Yang-Mills theory in four dimensions. The key ingredients are electric-magnetic duality of gauge theory, mirror symmetry of sigma-models, branes, Wilson and ’t Hooft operators, and topological field theory. Seemingly esoteric notions of the geometric Langlan...
